The TfNSW (Transport for NSW) minutes for the June 3rd, 2020 meeting of the BCC (Blackheath Co-design Committee) are below:

Comments by Juliet Bourke, BCC representative of the Save Centennial Glen group, are below:

On 3 June we had the second Blackheath co-design meeting in which Transport showed us 3D modelling of two of the four options they are considering regarding the Great Western Highway upgrade at Blackheath: a four lane highway of tunnels and bridges through Centennial Glen, and four lanes of open cut, tunnels and “cut and cover” through Station Street.

To say I was shocked was an understatement. The 3D modelling did exactly what it was intended to do – it brought to life a (very bad) idea.

For the Centennial Glen option, imagine a long tall brightly lit concrete gash across the pristine landscape, with the constant movement (and noise) of speeding vehicles echoing around the once quiet valley.

For Station Street, forget the pretty historic homes and gardens, and imagine a fat black expanse of asphalt from Station Street to the Great Western Highway, with all of the noise and pollution that comes along with a constant stream of traffic.

But this is about more than sight and sound. I was shocked because I felt the potential for irreparable loss at a much deeper level. Loss of wildlife, recreation, community and heritage.

If you know what I am talking about, then please make a noise.
